Dumb question ... I have an API key, but where do I use it? I don't see a place in Joom Profile, and I can't seem to track down the right or current instructions via Google, or find a plugin for a Joomla-wide solution.
OK, I installed the update and removed my customized files (which basically reversed the order of postal code / state to match the US style. The page is now back to the "oops" error in the address search field.

I installed the latest. No more "oops" error, but now, when I enter any version of an address (postal code alone, city/state alone, full address), I get no results, even when I use values that I know match the users. The other four fields I've set up as searches (family name, head of household first name, spouse first name, and a select option, work perfectly.
Also, I discovered that the "error in connection" message was because I entered a postal code and clicked GO. I did not select anything from the options that appeared in the drop-down list. When I choose from that list, I do not get the error (but I still get no results).
Just an aside, other than the address search problem, Joom Profile works VERY well, thank you.
I think, you have uplaoded user data in database directly. So in address table there is no latitude and longitude of user. That is why search by address is not working. Either you need to find latitude and longitude of user and insert them in database or an scrip need to be written which will find the latitude and longitude and insert them in that table.
